Job Title Innovations - Research Associate

Kirstie recently completed her PhD, examining the ways in which pregnant women and their partners develop ideas about risk and safety in relation to choosing a place of birth. Her PhD took a social science approach, and is linked to the PSSQ Innovations Programme as well as being an adjunct study to the NPEU ‘Birthplace in England’ programme of research.

Prior to commencing her fellowship at King’s, Kirstie worked at the Centre for Health Services Studies, within the School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research (SSPSSR) at the University of Kent, where she gained an MA in Health Studies . Whilst at CHSS, Kirstie was involved in a number of studies including an EU funded evaluation of integrated health and social care, and later became a lecturer in qualitative research methods. Kirstie was also Academic Lead for the Kent section of the South East Research Design Service (SE RDS), providing support to NHS and social care researchers in qualitative research methods, and public involvement in health research. Kirstie was closely involved in the organisation of a conference for the BSA ‘Risk and Society’ study group, and was subsequently invited to be guest editor for special issues on living with uncertainty and risk at the journal ‘Health, Risk and Society’.
