Job Title Risk - Research Associate

Dr Kellie Thompson joined King's PSSQ as a Research Associate for the Risk programme early in 2011. With a background in child protection social work, Kellie completed a phD in Applied Social Science at Lancaster University in September 2010. As an ethnographer, and using mixed qualitative research methods, her doctoral thesis problematises received notions of ‘information’ and ‘information sharing’. Her thesis draws attention to the social organisation of information sharing and provides contextual, detailed understandings of the day to day contingencies and practical demands of child welfare information practices on the ground.

Information has become a valuable commodity in identifying and managing risk within health care, and Kellie has a particular interest in the factors that influence risk perception. More generally, her research interests lie in communication in social systems and the performative function of information in exchanges and transactions.
