Biography

 

David Guest is Professor of Organizational Psychology and Human Resource Management in the Department of Management at King’s College, London.  Prior to joining King’s College in 2000 he had spells at Birkbeck College, London and the London School of Economics.  He has had a number of ESRC research projects exploring human resource management and performance and aspects of workforce flexibility.  He has also completed an EU-funded European project on flexibility, worker well-being and the psychological contract which is soon to be published as a book by Oxford University Press.  His healthcare-related research includes an evaluation of the new role of nurse and midwife consultant and an analysis of the careers and issues in the motivation and retention of pharmacists.

 

As well as his role as Director of the Workforce Programme of the PSSQ, his other current main research is exploring human capital utilisation, well-being and influences on retention of military personnel based on focus groups and surveys involving over 20,00 serving staff. He has written numerous articles mainly covering human resource management, employee relations, the psychological contract and organizational change and he has had spells as editor of the Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology and the British Journal of Industrial Relations.  Since joining King’s College, he has had a spell as Head of Department and Deputy Head of the School of Social Science and Public Policy while at Birkbeck he acted as Pro-Vice Master.
