Aims and objectives
The primary aim of this project is to review the content, operation and application of some of the workforce procedures that are used by NHS trusts to deal with difficulties experienced by staff members. A secondary aim is to make recommendations as to how the use procedures may be optimised.
Why is this important?
The inappropriate use of formal workforce procedures may have serious consequences for both staff well being and the quality of service that is provided to patients. It is therefore of the utmost importance that the content, operation and application of these procedures is reviewed.
Who is Involved?
This research is being conducted with a steering group of stakeholders at KCH. Additionally, two student researchers have assisted with data collection under the supervision of the research team. The study involves four primary elements: 1) statistical analysis of workforce monitoring data; 2) Content analysis of case files; 3) Analysis of policies and procedures; 4) Focus groups with relevant stakeholders.
Anticipated Outcomes
All data collection is complete as of November 2009. A report, including detailed recommendations for action, will be fed back to the trust in December 2009.
